Gung Hei Fat Choy!
On January 29, 2025, we will celebrate the new Lunar Year in China, South Korea, Mongolia, Hmong, Vietnam, and Hmong Communities. The Snake in the Chinese zodiac represents a plethora of personality traits: wise, secretive, subtle, insightful, charming, yet with a dark side that can be seductive, proud and even malicious.
This year represents the Wood Snake. The positive qualities associated with it are:
- Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical skills;
- Ability to adapt to new environments and challenges;
- Strong communication abilities, especially in resolving conflicts;
- Creativity and innovation in artistic and professional fields.
For last year--The Year of the Dragon--I reviewed films with 'Dragon' in the title. This year, I will do something a little different. I will review as many adaptations of the famous 'White Snake' legend as I can get my mits on. So, get ready for lots of slithering snake seductresses and monks named Fahai during the month of January!
Films reviewed:
Panda and the Magic Serpent (1958)
